The Most Controversial Buildings of All Time
NEW YORK—A “prison-like” housing project in St. Louis; the expensive and elaborate Sydney Opera House, which took 16 years to build; and the under-construction Al Wakrah Stadium, which is to host the 2022 World Cup in Doha, Qatar, lead a recent list of the “Most Controversial Buildings of All Time.” The list, compiled by ArchDaily, also includes the Eiffel Tower; London’s “Walkie Talkie,” which melted parts of cars parked nearby with reflected sunlight; and the 27-story Antilla Residential Tower in Mumbai, which houses a single family. Ostentatiously built next to a slum, the building is home to the fifth-richest man in the world.
