Drones Spot Dubai Construction Site Violations
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates—Drones are being used to monitor construction site violations in Dubai. The Emirate’s Ministry of Labor introduced the technology to help inspectors record when sites are breaking laws, including ignoring the midday break law that prevents workers from working in the midday sun between June and September. So far this year, 56 companies were caught violating the ban. Each drone can cover 2 km2(0.8 mi2) over a 20 minute period and can fly up to 1 km (0.6 mile) high. An operator inputs the exact coordinates of the drone’s destination before sending it out to capture live footage and images via a high-definition camera.
