California first state to generate more than 5% of electricity from utility-scale solar – Today in Energy – U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

WASHINGTON, D.C.—California has become the first state to receive 5% of its electricity from large-scale solar power installations, according to a report released March 24 by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). In 2014, solar power plants in California generated 9.9 million MWh of electricity, more than all other states combined, and more than three times the output of the next-highest state, Arizona. The EIA report doesn’t count the output of rooftop solar arrays on homes and many businesses. California law requires utilities to get 33% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2020.
